Hazelwood Pondage Blue Green Algae cleared

30 Apr 2013

The Blue Green Algae (BGA) outbreak affecting Hazelwood Pondage in the Latrobe Valley has cleared.

Water testing conducted at Hazelwood Pondage by GDF SUEZ Hazelwood has shown little sign of the BGA outbreak which has affected the popular waterway for the last two months.

Test results revealed zero detectable algae cell counts at all test sites around the pondage which has resulted in the current status alert being withdrawn.

Accordingly all BGA warning signs will be removed immediately.

Recreational users are reminded that the current five knot speed restriction remains in place for the entire waterway due to low water levels.

GDF SUEZ Hazelwood would like to thank the public for adhering to the warning signs during this BGA bloom. GDF SUEZ Hazelwood’s pondage water-sampling program will continue to monitor water quality for any changes in the BGA situation.
