Response to Technical Review Board Report

25 Jun 2013

The Victorian Government’s Department of Environment and Primary Industries’ Technical Review Board (TRB) has released its 2011-2012 annual report. The TRB was established in 2009 to provide independent advice to help the Government and industry better manage ground control associated with mining in Victoria, in order to mitigate the risks this presents to public safety, environment, public infrastructure and security of power supply.

This year’s annual report makes a number of comments on potential ground movement in the Latrobe Valley. GDF SUEZ Australian Energy provided the following comment on the TRB report: “As the Technical Review Board (TRB) report has identified, all parties acknowledge that this is a very complex issue.

“Hazelwood is continuing to work through the issues with the TRB and has taken a proactive approach to managing its mining environment. For example, we are constructing a comprehensive ground control management plan for the mine, we have developed a leading edge geographical information system and we are establishing technically advanced ground monitoring systems.

“We are comfortable with the process the Victorian Government has adopted and will continue to work closely with the TRB, Department of Environment and Primary Industries and external technical experts to effectively manage this environment.”
