FareShare

Victoria

Every year, two million Australians will experience hunger. Over the same period, for every Australian 200 kilograms of food is wasted.

FareShare rescues surplus quality food from supermarkets, farmers and other businesses and with the help of 600 volunteers, makes it into more than 20,000 free nutritious meals per week for Victorian charities.

With the support of ENGIE, FareShare has extended the organisation’s reach into the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland areas. It now provides 80,000 meals per year to those in need, via 13 local distribution agencies, such as Gippsland Christian Church - Community Care Arm; Enjoy Church; The Salvation Army-Morwell; St Vincent de Paul-Traralgon; Mirboo North Christian Centre, and Leongatha Veterans Welfare Centre. Future partners include the Sale Salvation Army and The Smith Family’s programs at Kurnai College.

Operation Flinders

Victoria and South Australia

Operation Flinders is a world-leading wilderness adventure program for young people at risk. The program takes participants aged between 14 and 18 on an eight-day exercise in the far northern Flinders Ranges, providing an opportunity for participants to break away from their past and grow as valued members of the community with a new direction in life.

Teams trek 100km through the Flinders Ranges as part of a program aimed at developing personal attitudes of self esteem, leadership, motivation, teamwork and responsibility. Each year, we assist in sending five teams on the program.

ENGIE and Simply Energy support 3 South Australian-based teams of young people to experience Operation Flinders, and we have expanded support to an additional 2 teams from the Latrobe Valley in Victoria.

To achieve this, we were very pleased to partner with the 5 Latrobe Valley Rotary Clubs (Moe, Morwell, Hazelwood, Traralgon and Traralgon central), to share the costs of the expeditions, the travel and logistics, and additional support where needed for those candidates that qualify for Peer Group Mentor training after their camp.

In addition, the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Learning, via its Flexible Learning Option campus in Morwell, is a key Partner in facilitating the selection of candidates, all associated administration, pre-expedition training, travel to and from SA, and where appropriate, assisting with Peer Group Mentor ongoing support.
