The 10-year Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) will reduce the Council’s carbon emissions by about 67,000 tonnes (the equivalent of removing more than 1,000 cars off our roads) and will deliver significant ongoing cost savings through reduced rates on Council’s electricity bills.
The Mayor of Hawkesbury City Council, Councillor Barry Calvert said: “Rising electricity costs are affecting communities across Australia. Businesses and government organisations also feel this cost pressure, including local councils."
“Through our agreement with ENGIE, we were able to reduce our costs, while also standing by our commitment to renewable energy.”
ENGIE Executive General Manager of Energy Management, Mr Andrew Hyland, said the renewable PPA was the latest example of ENGIE using its understanding of the wholesale energy market to design solutions for customers transitioning to a zero-carbon future.

The Hawkesbury City Council PPA came into effect from January 1, 2020. As the largest council area in Metropolitan Sydney it’s great news that 100 per cent of electricity consumption for its largest facilities will be matched against the equivalent volume of energy taken across generation output from two solar farms.
ENGIE’s existing energy portfolio will ensure continuity of a firm and reliable energy supply, even when renewables may not be available.
The Hawkesbury renewable PPA was delivered via a tender conducted by Renewable Energy Hub, the energy market advisory arm of Tradition Financial Services Australia (TFS), a company with a history spanning two decades in wholesale energy and environmental market transactions in Australia and part of the global Tradition group.
