ENGIE L’Oréal Partnership

ENGIE Helps L’Oréal Achieve Sustainability Goals. Powered by 100% renewables.

A Partnership for Good

L’Oréal Australia will be powered by 100% renewable electricity under a long-term energy supply agreement with ENGIE.

Helping Customers Achieve their Targets

Globally, L’Oréal has set some aggressive targets under their Sharing Beauty with All sustainability program. They have committed to reduce their environmental footprint through changes such as using renewable energy.

As at 2018, the L’Oréal Group had reduced the Greenhouse gas emissions of its plants and distribution centres by 77% across the world in absolute terms, compared with 2005, exceeding a 60% goal it had committed to achieve by 2020.

To help further the company’s ambitious 2020 sustainable development commitments we partnered with L’Oréal to supply its Australian operations with 100% renewable electricity under a long-term supply agreement.

How it Works

L’Oréal’s Australian renewable energy targets will be met by a combination of green energy supplied through our Willogoleche Wind Farm and the purchase of large-scale certificates from Willogoleche which help underpin new investment in renewable energy.

By committing to a 5 year power purchase agreement (PPA) through our retail arm, Simply Energy, L’Oréal Australia will experience many benefits. Not only will they be powered by 100% renewable energy, they will also enjoy long-term affordability, improved price visibility and expense certainty.

Why We Believe PPAs are the Way of the Future

ENGIE is committed to a future powered by renewable energy and we’re exploring all kinds of innovative solutions to achieve this goal.

PPAs are great because they deliver real cost savings to customers while supporting the transition to renewables – a win for both business and the environment.

Often, steps taken to improve efficiency come at a cost, requiring an initial investment to be paid back over the long term. But PPAs require no upfront investment by the customer and the savings and benefits to the environment start at day one.

Addressing climate change is an urgent priority and as a large Australian business, we know we play a role in making positive changes to reduce our environmental footprint. The move to renewable energy for all of our Australian sites was a 2020 target for us and we’re pleased to achieve this through our partnership with ENGIE before we head into the new decade. There is still more to be done and being a responsible company is our key priority. We are inspired to make change and will continue to work on sustainability initiatives across our entire business.

The L’Oréal partnership is another example of ENGIE helping our customers in their transition to zero-carbon. More businesses are seeking affordable green energy and we are proud to be working with L’Oréal to help them achieve their goals through an innovative, long-term power supply agreement.

What's Next?

We already have about 1,200MW of low-carbon generation capacity and more than 800MW of new renewable energy under development. We’re also setting up a renewable energy investment fund in Australia to bolster development growth in the region, and the L’Oréal partnership is one of many future PPAs.
