David Jones has relocated its central headquarters from Sydney to a purpose-built corporate campus in the heart of Melbourne’s fashion industry district. The new headquarters is home to iconic retailers David Jones and Country Road Group, including the brands Witchery, Trenery, Mimco, Country Road and Politix. The project encompassed turnkey provision of light, power and communications services, including feature lighting control, switchboard upgrades and complete digital office implementation, across a 22,500 m2 complex of two connected buildings. The new headquarters showcases the best of Australian design, and the project demanded state-of-the-art installation across all systems.
The Solution
The site consisted of two buildings with light-filled interconnected atriums. ENGIE supplied a complete optical fibre and Category 6A communications installation to provide staff with a fully digital work environment. This included cabling for AV, WAP, security and CCTV systems. An innovative lighting control system was installed throughout the buildings, with a suspended neon light feature over the reception desk. ENGIE worked with the client to find a lighting package in line with their budget and design aesthetic. New switchboard installation and modifications were implemented, along with exit and emergency lighting systems and general power installation.
The Benefit
ENGIE had the resources and capability to provide a turnkey solution of multiple technical scopes of work. Rather than needing to engage with multiple trades and project managers, the client had a single point of contact for the entire power, lighting and communications design and installation on this project. ENGIE worked closely with the Tandem Building Group for the fit-out, completing this complex site-wide installation on time and within budget and providing expertise for the client on best practice solutions.
