What is a solar feed-in tariff?
A Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) is a payment you will receive when your solar panels produce more energy than your household uses and it is fed into the grid. Your FiT will appear as a credit on your electricity bill.
Looking to upgrade your solar system?
ENGIE has a network of Clean Energy Council accredited installers to help recommend the right solution for you.
Frequently asked questions
Am I eligible to sign up for the ENGIE Solar energy plan?
You must have, or be in the process of, installing a solar system with a maximum inverter size of 10kW’s. If we find that your solar system inverter is larger than this, we may end your contract and plan. Any credits include GST and are not redeemable for cash.
How does the ‘stepped Feed-in Tariff (FiT)’ work?
With a stepped Feed-in Tariff (FiT) the higher FiT (12 c/kWh) applies for the first 8 kWh per day, and 3.3 c/kWh thereafter based on a daily average over your billing period. For example, if your solar export is 300 kWh over 30 days the average export is 10 kWh per day.

Why is the Victorian Government ending the solar feed-in tariff (PFiT) scheme?
The PFIT scheme was legislated in 2009 to provide early adopters of solar panels with a guaranteed feed-in tariff for 15 years. Under the legislation, the scheme is due to end on 1 November 2024. The PFIT scheme was funded by electricity distribution businesses which pass on the costs of the scheme through increases in the tariffs they charge all Victorians, including non-solar customers.
Minimum feed in tariff rates have also been decreasing over time due to declining daytime wholesale electricity market prices. This reflects the changing value of solar exports, given increasing solar generation across Victoria and low wholesale electricity prices during daylight hours (when most excess solar generation is being sent back into the grid). The Essential Services Commission highlights that if retailers were required to pay solar customers more than the value of solar exports, this would increase retailers’ costs and be reflected in higher prices for their other electricity customers.
Where can I find further information on the scheme ending?
