Solar energy from your rooftop panels can help you save money. When your rooftop solar panels generate more power than you’re using in your home, the leftover solar energy is sent back into the electricity grid.
A Feed-in Tariff (FiT). is a payment you’ll receive for this unused energy. The solar FIT appears as a credit on your electricity bill and is paid to you from your electricity retailer (us), usually at a set rate per kilowatt hour.

ENGIE Feed-in Tariff (FiT): 1c/kWh
This FiT is available to customers who have;
· A Solar system (or other eligible form of renewable energy, such as wind, hydro or biomass) with a size of less than 100 kilowatts.
· Bi-directional metering measuring two-way electricity flows, recording them on a half-hourly basis.

ENGIE Standard Feed-in Tariff (FIT): 1c/kWh

Distributor Feed-in Tariff (DFIT): 44c/kWh (scheme closed to new entrants from 30 September 2011)
DFIT eligibility:
- Households, small businesses, community buildings or churches with a solar PV system who consumes less than 160 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity a year.
- Switching retailers: If you have an eligible system and currently receive the DFIT with another retailer, you will continue to receive this feed-in tariff with ENGIE.
- Maximum output: 10 kVA for homes with single phase or 30 kVA for homes with three-phase electricity.
- Important dates:
- If your system was approved to be connected by 31 August 10 and was installed with an approved meter by 29 January 12, you should be eligible for 48c/kWh (44c/kWh DFIT plus ENGIE FIT) for every kWh exported to the grid.
- If your system was approved by between the 1 September 10 and 30 September 11 and the system was installed with an approved meter by 8 February 12, you should be eligible for 48c/kWh (44c/kWh DFIT plus ENGIE FIT) for the first 45kWh exported each day. You will receive 4c/kWh for any additional kWh exported.
- Moving house: The DFIT tariff is linked to the property where the solar PV system is installed. When moving to a new house you cannot take the DFIT payments with you. The property will remain eligible for the scheme until 30 June 2028, even if the house is sold and new residents move in.

Solar Bonus Scheme Feed-in Tariff: 44c/kWh (scheme closed to new entrants from 9 July 2012)
This scheme is payable until 1 July 2028, providing eligibility criteria are met.
You will lose eligibility for the Solar Bonus Scheme Feed-in Tariff if you:
- Move house, as this will result in a new electricity account holder for the premises.
- Sell or let your house, if this results in a new electricity account holder for the premises.
- Increase your inverter capacity/size.
- Close your electricity account.
- Are disconnected (e.g. because you fail to pay a bill or breach a contract).
- Add extra capacity/panels that exceed the rated capacity of your system’s inverter.
- Use alternative energy sources, such as other generators or batteries, when the system receiving the 44c FiT is operating, unless alternative sources have separate connections to the network.
Please note the following:
- If you have an eligible system and currently receive the Solar Bonus Scheme Feed-in Tariff with another retailer, you will continue to receive this feed-in tariff with ENGIE.
- Only one feed-in tariff applies to each solar account. If you are eligible for the Solar Bonus Scheme Feed-in Tariff, you will only receive this tariff. You will not be eligible to receive the ENGIE Standard Feed-in Tariff.

A feed-in tariff is a payment you’ll receive for any extra solar energy you generate that goes back into the electricity grid.
The excess electricity your solar panels generate appears as credit on your electricity bill and is deducted from the total amount you owe.
Feed-in payment amounts and eligibility will depend on the amount you feed back in to the grid and the state you live in.
If your solar feed-in tariffs are more than your electricity usage and your bill shows you are in credit, you may be eligible for a refund.
