Feed-in Tariff

With a Feed-in Tariff (FiT), leftover solar energy is sent back into the electricity grid, so you can receive credits back on your electricity bill if you have unused energy from your rooftop panels.

Frequently asked questions

How much money can I save with solar?

Savings depend on your energy usage, solar system size, and feed-in tariff, but most households see a significant drop in electricity bills, and many systems pay for themselves in 4 to 6 years through savings and export credits.

How long does solar installation take?

It depends on a few factors, including the size of your property and your chosen setup, but most residential solar installations take only one day to complete. Larger or more complex systems may take 2 to 3 days. This doesn’t include the time needed for grid connection approval, which can add 1 to 3 weeks depending on your distributor.

What is my solar FIT (Feed-in Tariff)?

Your Feed-in Tariff (FiT) is the rate your electricity retailer pays you for excess solar energy you export to the grid. In Australia, FITs vary by state and retailer. You can check your energy plan or contact your retailer to confirm your current FiT.

Can I get solar, then add a battery later?

Yes, in most cases, you can add a battery to an existing solar setup. Your qualified installer can assess your system and recommend a compatible battery and inverter (if needed) to integrate smoothly with your current setup.

Do I still receive my feed-in tariff while on a VPP?

Yes, if you’re part of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), you’ll usually still receive your feed-in tariff for any energy exported to the grid. However, the exact structure can vary by VPP provider, so it's best to check if your FIT is affected or enhanced under your specific VPP agreement.

Can I get a government grant for solar installation?

Yes, there are a number of rebates and incentives available across Australia to help lower the cost of home battery storage. From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will introduce a national solar battery rebate, designed to cut installation costs by around 30%. The rebate offers up to $372 per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery storage. You can visit your state government’s energy website for specific details on rebates and incentives that you may be eligible for in your state.
