If you need help with your energy bills, you may be eligible for government concessions, rebates, or grants. These are offered by your state government and can reduce your energy costs.

How do I apply for energy concessions?
How you apply for an energy concession depends on the type of concession and the state you live in. Some concessions can be applied directly through ENGIE, while others must be applied for through your state government.
To find the correct application method, check your state's eligibility and application process below.
If your concession can be applied for through ENGIE
To apply for an energy concession, you’ll need to contact us by calling us on 13 88 08.
You must be a primary or secondary ENGIE account holder. Your energy account must be for Residential use only, and you can claim a concession only for your principal place of residence.
Most energy concessions are only available to households with a valid concession card. More information about the eligibility requirements for different energy concessions in your state or territory is available in the sections below.
Before you apply, please make sure you have:

- A valid concession card
- Matching names on your account and concession card

Family Energy Rebate
What it is: A rebate to help families manage energy costs.
Who it’s for: Households with dependent children receiving Family Tax Benefit A or B. To check your eligibility, visit the NSW government website.
How much: Up to approximately $180 per year (excl. GST).

NSW Gas Rebate

What it is: A rebate to help cover the cost of running approved life support equipment.
Who it’s for: Customers who rely on eligible energy-intensive medical equipment at home. To check your eligibility, visit the NSW government website.

What it is: An additional discount if your electricity use exceeds annual threshold levels.
Who it’s for: Customers already receiving electricity or concessions who exceed usage thresholds. To check your eligibility, visit the VIC government website.
How much: 17.5% of electricity usage and service costs up to an annual threshold.
How to apply: ENGIE will check if you need to apply for the Excess Electricity Concession and send you an application form to complete.
Excess Gas Concession
What it is: An additional discount if your gas use exceeds annual threshold levels.
Who it’s for: Customers already receiving gas or concessions who exceed usage thresholds. To check your eligibility, visit the VIC government website.
How much: 17.5% of gas usage and service costs up to an annual threshold.
How to apply: ENGIE will check if you need to apply for the Excess Gas Concession and send you an application form to complete.
Life Support Concession
What it is: A concession to help cover electricity costs for approved life support equipment
Who it’s for: Customers who use eligible life support equipment prescribed by a medical practitioner. To check your eligibility, visit the VIC government website.
How much: Equivalent to 1,880 kWh per year (or 470 kWh per quarter).
How to apply: Complete the Life Support Concession Application Form and return it to us online or by post (see address below).
Medical Cooling Concession
What it is: A discount to help cover electricity costs for cooling due to an eligible medical condition.
Who it’s for: Customers with eligible medical conditions affecting temperature regulation. To check your eligibility, visit the VIC government website.
How much: 17.5% discount on electricity usage and service costs (1 November to 30 April each year).
How to apply: Download the Medical Cooling Concession Application Form and return it to us online or by post (see address below).
Winter Gas Concession
What it is: A discount on your gas usage and service costs during winter.
Who it’s for: Victorian gas customers with an eligible concession card. To check your eligibility, visit the VIC government website.
How much: 17.5% of gas usage and service costs (1 May to 31 October each year).
How to apply: To apply this concession to your ENGIE account, please call us on 13 88 08, Mon-Fri, 8am-7pm (AEST), or use online chat, Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm (AEST).
Utility Relief Grant Scheme (read our application form guide)
What it is: A grant to help pay overdue energy bills during temporary financial hardship
Who it’s for: Victorian households experiencing short-term financial difficulty. To check your eligibility, visit the VIC government website.
How much: Up to $650 per utility (or up to $1,300 for single-energy households) over two years.

Medical Heating and Cooling Concession
What it is: A rebate to help cover energy costs for heating and cooling due to medical needs
Who it’s for: South Australian residents on a low or fixed income with a medical condition affecting temperature regulation. To check your eligibility, visit the SA government website
How much: Up to $291.27 per year (a daily rate of $0.798, GST exclusive) (amount correct for 2026/2027 - reviewed each financial year)
How to apply: Apply via the SA Government website.
Emergency Electricity Payment Scheme
What it is: A one-off emergency payment to help pay energy bills during financial hardship
Who it’s for: South Australian residents who have an electricity debt and are at risk of having their electricity disconnected. To check your eligibility, visit the SA government website.
How much: A financial counsellor will assess your financial situation.
How to apply: The Emergency Electricity Payment Scheme can only be accessed through financial counsellors, who will assess your financial situation before lodging an application on your behalf.

If you live in Queensland, you may be eligible for government rebates to help reduce your energy bills. Below is a list of the rebates available in your territory, including eligibility requirements and how to apply.

- Queensland Seniors Card
- Services Australia or Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card

Electricity Life Support
What it is: Financial support for electricity used by approved life support equipment.
Who it’s for: Customers using eligible life support equipment with a qualifying concession card. To check your eligibility, visit the QLD government website.
How much: $1,063.30 per year (incl. GST) for each oxygen concentrator or $712.07 per year (incl. GST) for each kidney dialysis machine.
How to apply: Complete the Electricity Life Support Concession application form sent to you by your hospital or the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme.
Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme
What it is: A one-off emergency payment to help pay energy bills during financial hardship.
Who it’s for: Customers experiencing short-term financial difficulty or an unexpected emergency. To check your eligibility, visit the QLD government website.
How much: Up to $720 once every two years.
