Switching Retailers
Switching to ENGIE from another provider
Switching energy retailers might sound complicated, but it’s a lot simpler than you think.
Before you make the change, check out the FAQs on switching retailers.
Can I switch energy providers whenever I like?
Absolutely. Changes in the Australian energy industry over the past decade mean you can choose to change energy providers/retailers or plans at any time.
What happens when I change provider?
When you accept a ENGIE electricity and/or gas offer, we become your new retailer. We’ll send out a welcome pack with all the info you need, including a copy of your contract.
A couple of things won’t change:
- Your energy distributor – the company that supplies the energy to you and maintains your power poles and wires.
- The quality and reliability of your energy supply.
Do I need to tell my old energy provider I’m switching?
Only if you’re moving – that way they can disconnect your old property and send you a final bill. Otherwise, we’ll let your current retailer know on your behalf.
How long will it take to switch?
The transfer to us can take anywhere from 10 business days to 4 months – it depends on your meter type (basic or smart meter) and when your next meter read is scheduled.
Once we have your final meter read and the transfer is complete, we will let you know in writing.
What happens if I decide to cancel my plan with ENGIE?
At ENGIE, we don’t have exit fees or lock-in contracts on our current residential plans. That means you’re free to change or cancel your plan whenever you like.
How can I compare ENGIE plans?
Compare our simple and affordable energy offers and rates here and find the electricity and/or gas plans that work for you.
