Reduce and Reward

Two people looking happily at a laptop screen.

You could receive a bill credit up to $100 this summer!

During summer, the Australian energy grid can experience overwhelming demand which can lead to network reliability and energy supply constraints. To avoid these issues, we’re rewarding customers that meet our reduction targets during these peak demand events. We’ll SMS eligible ENGIE customers 2-hours prior to an event so you can prepare to reduce your electricity consumption. There will be multiple events this summer, so more chances to earn!

What is a Peak Demand Event?

A Peak Demand Event refers to a period when the demand for electricity is at its highest, which may be caused by extreme weather conditions. This puts pressure on the electricity grid. Peak demand events usually last up to four hours.

Think you can be a Gold Super Saver?

Gold Super Savers can receive a $100 bill credit for being in the top 2% of savers each event. The more electricity you reduce during an event, the more you could earn! Keep an eye on your Tracker email to see if you are a Gold Super Saver.

How is my baseline calculated?

Non-Solar: Your baseline is calculated by taking your average usage over your previous 10 days at the same time as the event.

Solar: Your baseline is calculated by taking your average usage across the 5 biggest days of the last 10 days at the same time as the event. Your baseline could potentially be negative if you are exporting more than you are importing during this historical 10 day window.

Important Note

The Reduce & Reward program is for invited ENGIE customers in NSW, VIC and SA. If you are in another state, or if there is any
reason why turning off certain appliances would be harmful to you or anyone at your home or business, you are unable to join the
program.

Frequently asked questions

What is our Reduce & Reward program?

Our Reduce & Reward program is a simple way to reward yourself with a bill credit by voluntarily reducing your energy consumption and meeting your reduction target when demand on the electricity grid is high.

What do I need to do?

During a peak demand event you must meet your electricity reduction target. We’ll SMS you 2-hours prior to an event so you can prepare to reduce your consumption.

Do I have to participate?

No, you don’t have to participate in an event. But, you must reply YES to the event notification to participate in the event.

How is my expected energy consumption calculated?

Your expected energy consumption is calculated by taking your average usage over the previous 10 days at the same time as the event.

I have solar, how is my baseline calculated?

Your baseline is calculated by taking your average usage across the 5 biggest days of the last 10 days at the same time as the event. Your baseline could potentially be negative if you are exporting more than you are importing during this historical 10 day window.

What is the eligibility criteria to receive the $100 credit per event?

To receive the $100 credit, you must be in the top 2% of kWh reducers below your baseline, compared to all invited customers who have opted into the event.

What if I am not home when an event is on?

That’s okay, you don’t have to participate.

When will my bill credit be applied?

If you successfully meet your energy reduction target your bill credit will be applied to your next bill. We won’t be able to apply the credit if your bill arrives in the same week as an event. In this case we will apply your credit to the following bill.

How long is an event?

Up to four hours.

Who can join this program?

Eligible solar and non-solar residential ENGIE electricity customers who have received the SMS invite and welcome email addressed to them can join this program.

Why should I get involved?

You’ll be helping to reduce the demand on the grid during periods of high demand. You will also receive bill credits if you meet your electricity reduction target during a peak demand event.

Can solar customers participate?

Yes, you can.

What time of the days are the events likely to happen?

10am - 10pm Monday to Sunday.

If I move house, can I still participate?

Unfortunately, we need 10 days of historical energy data to calculate your baseline, so you will no longer be able to participate until you have enough historical energy data after your move.

Do I need to install anything to participate?

No, there is nothing additional you need to purchase or install.
